I removed the oil pump plug from the spare engine to check if the sensor installation would be possible.
I measured the thread
…and it seems to be something like M16 x 1.25. Damn, I couldn’t find any M16 x 1.25 -\> 1/8″ NPT adapters, only thing I found was M16 x 1.5.
The plug also seems tapered. I checked the repairmanual as well and I didn’t find any info about it. Maybe I’ll leave it alone 🙂
Oil pressure sender is at the top right corner. I left it slightly open, so I can spot it when I start working with my spare engine.
I’m not exactly sure whats going on behind this plug. Maybe it is easier to install the oil temp sensor in the same tubing with the oil cooler. I’ll check if I can find a adapter for that.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I had in mind, but I’ll use the original oil pressure sender hole for both toyota’s and the pivot’s sensor. I’ve already checked a nice place from the front side of the engine bay for the sensors. 🙂 I don’t think I’m going to use this hole for anything, I have to find a separate place for the temp sensor.
C-Rock, You use steelbraided hose as an adapter for the sensor. Measure how long you need to secure the sensor firmly and order one from HiFlex with proper endings. This works with pressure, not with temperature.
Just one hour per day looking under the car and doing small things here and there, I think that does wonders 🙂 The spare engine helps a lot when you need to check something out. No need to rip everything apart just to see if something is missing or not 🙂 Best place for the oil temp sensor would be somewhere near the hottest point, but I dont think that’s possible with my tools 🙂 Widric bought a oil filter sandwich plate which didn’t fit properly in the Civic, but When I tested it, it was almost a perfect fit… Read more »
Man I wish I could dive into that stuff like you guys do! If you place the oil temp sensor in the oil cooler, would that still give an accurate reading compared to the rest of the engine? Or doesn’t it matter very much? Sorry for the newbie questions :D, keep up the great work, so many updates! Making me feel slack by not getting onto my silvertop project xD.
