Testing Widric’s camera mount

Just prior leaving, I wanted to try if I could build some kind of camera mount using a tripod and a bunch of zip ties. I was speaking with Widric on the phone, when he said that the mount for his AIM SmartyCam does have the bit needed for regular cameras.

I went through Widric’s shelves and found the parts. I attached the whole system to the rear window:

The camera is Canon HF100 with Raynox HD-5050 lens.

I didn’t have time to actually get out, so I just drove around our garage 😀 The box on the passenger seat is my subwoofer as Mr. Sensei is busy with other projects.

The camera vibrates slightly but it seems to be stable enough to get some kind of picture. Hope the whole rear window won’t break away when I eventually drive over a bump.

Hah! Yeah, getting it directly from US of A will be faster 🙂

you didn’t know the answer… ;D My answer is YES! Get your own RAM Mount. I can deliver it from AIM, but I guess you can get one faster from USA or some other inter net source.

Yeah, that upside down -thing should be possible. My first idea was to attach the mount to the rear quarter window, then to the glass roof panel. Both of those are slightly curved, so for the safety I went with the rear window. I did test the mount with the rear quarter window and it seemed to be real solid with that too, so the roof panel shouldnt be any problem. Should I get my own ram mount? 🙂 (I know your answer: Get a SmartyCam!) 🙂

Sorry to disturb your wheel conversation, but have you C-Rock thought of attaching the camera on your glass roof panels? At least our SmartyCam is able to change the video orientation even though it’s up side down, so I guess you can do it too with your super camera 🙂 Btw, the manufacturer of these camera holders is RAM Mounts: http://www.ram-mount.com/

This would be quite nice setup: Front: 15 x 7 with +21 offset and 195/50 tire Rear: 15 x 7.5 with +21 offset and 205/50 tire A bit wider setup for rear. This setup might need some fender rolling and removing some of the small bits holding the inner fender plastic in place. 15 x 7 in every corner will work nicely as well. Does the stock triangle have the ET marked so I could compare it with this setup. 17 are mostly too big for AW11. I’ve seen one with 18’s but that’s just stupid. 16 with proper tire… Read more »
