I was heading back to garage and decided to take the expressway, to test how the car runs. I checked my mirrors when I got off ramp and saw only one dark Mazda going about 100kmh towards downtown and a pair of really dim lights way behind me.
Then I accelerated slightly, but didn’t watch the speedo all the time. I started to slow down after 30 seconds or so and I suddenly noticed that I had someone tailgating me. The tailgater started to blink his headlamps and I wondered if I had something weird going on, like the engine in flames.
Did the tailgater have something on his roof?

I checked my speedo in an instant and I was doing bit more than the limit. I thought that I had accelerated way past the limit when I got off the ramp and I was just seconds away from losing my license, getting a hefty ticked and maybe facing a court case.
The cop van didn’t turn the blue lights on. They didn’t turn on their stop light. I had no idea what was going on, but the cops clearly did have intrest towards me and my driving. The road was empty, they
The cop car was regular Cop Transporter. No raindeers around. Actually, the driver was my old customer and tunes his car. I shall not mention any more about him. He’s nice guy and I do not wish any harm for him from not wearing seatbelt. 🙂 My opinion is, cops are mostly great fellows and ordinary people just like us. There are few rotten apples just like everywhere who spoils the image of the cops totally. Roads in rural/coastal areas of NZ are really fun to drive, and there’s little danger of speeding fines, it’s just that the road condition isn’t always fantastic, I’ll definately make you a video sometime!
Aphexic: I’ll try to make some kind of video. Roads here are smooth, straight and controlled by automatic police speed cams. This case reminds me of my experience of coppers few years ago. I was on my way to spend Christmas with my family and obviously I had missed last bus. Cops stopped by and told thre is no busses anymore and while I was obviously looking very sad and dissapointed, they offered to take me over half the way to a train station where I could catch a train still.
