Aluminium oxide inside oil passages

That white, powdery stuff there is aluminium oxide. And it’s baaaaad.

While being washed for those technical coatings, something happened and insides of the cylinderheads got exposed to washing agent. Aluminium reacted with washing agent and end result was aluminium oxide.

Aluminium oxide is that same stuff that is glued to paper to make sandpaper. Wonder what it would do inside my engine if left there…?

Nah, I’m taking it back to the coating company 🙂

Shit luck

At least three valves were corroded. While cleaning them, the hard coating just flaked off. Shit luck. Ordered a full set of supertech standard size valves.

All clouds have silver bla blaaa. Luckily I found a set of 20v head cam followers. My 20v head was missing those. Also, found a set of 1SZ-FE cam followers. I’ll try to see if I could get those work on my 16v head as solid cam followers.

Got IN/EX HKS 272 degree 8.1mm lift camshafts with HKS springs. IN was brand new but EX had been sitting somewhere where it had attracted rust. Someone then had machined the camshaft and it was really good. Garage neighbor gave a hand and polished the bearing surfaces for me.

Auto Verdi sent me four conrods, which felt like they were made by elves out of mithril.

…and just got a pile of plastigauge so I can check bearing tolerances. For proper tightening torque, I have to wait a little bit longer. Ordered a high tech torque wrench from germany, but it hasnt arrived yet.

Critical things I’m still missing:

  • Cam followers (1SZ-FE solids or Supertech?)
  • Cam gears (maybe toda?)
  • Intake + throttle body
  • Injectors + connectors (Bosch EV14 1000cc?)
  • Wiring loom
  • Intercooler
  • Turbo hardware kit
  • Exhaust
  • Cam covers (still being painted)
  • Crank bearings
  • Conrod bearings
  • Idle air valve (really?)

…was that all?
