Working with clean components is nice. M/T was covered in oily dust and something else, which we couldn’t determine, but we got mostly rid of it. Everything sensitive on the gearbox was either covered in plastic or plugged before washing.
Not exactly a short shifter
This is the only shifter knob I have. Maladar bought it for me as a joke, but it seems that I have to use it for real 😀
I saw a LED light system for a similar shifter knob, but can’t remember where I saw it :-/
Removing the A/T selector
I removed the gear selector.
The manual gear selector was full of hair from previous owner. Tried to remove some of it. How did it get in there is beyond me.
The clutch
Maladar estimates the clutch weight. The clutch is ATS & ACROSS (also known as Carbonetics) carbon fiber clutch. The model number is CT23H192-16S and it’s officially for AE92. ATS & ACROSS doesn’t list the AW11 as compatible model, but AE92 uses the same engine and same gearbox (E51 – for AW11 with reversed gear selector, for AE92 with normal gear selector), so it should fit without problems.
Clutch taken apart. Its a three puck carbon clutch, looks impressive.
No, the sticker is not good on this side.
It should be here.
Yeah!
Maladar admires the clutch in his own special way
The flywheel fits perfectly and is torqued to spec with new flywheel bolts. Maladar is cleaning the surface with brain killer… brake cleaner.

LEDs from Hong Kong
I got some LEDs from Hong Kong. Some of the LEDs I ordered were unavailable and I’ll get the rest later. What I got was two different types of white T10 base LEDs and two types of T10 amber LEDs.
Looks quite similar when compared to the ones ordered from SuperBrightLeds.
Amber LEDs – no surprises. They were amber. My intention is to use ’em as turn signal lamps.
The white LEDs were blue. My crude measurement from the pictures gave a color temperature between 6400 to 7000 kelvins, which is really blue. These leds would work really well with HIDs, but with normal natural white/white H4’s (at 3500 to 4000 kelvins) it will be a problem. Why are cops so attracted to blue light? They act like they own all the blue light in the world.
First white LED
Second one
The second LED looks violet in the picture. My first thought was UV light, but my lens has a UV filter on it. Strange.
Trying to compare the LED with the garage lights. Still violet.
Amp and subwoofer II
Maladar ponders my amp installation.
“It’s not beautiful, merely functional” – Still needs something to stiffen up the plate and one or two brackets to attach it more solidly to the chassis.
Dropping the A/T gearbox
This post is going to be bit photoheavy. (And I’m really tired)
Draining oil
Maladar checks that there isn’t anything that might get snagged
Removing drive axles. They were really dirty, so it took a while. Hex bolts were full of oily gunk and the wrench just kept popping out.
Attaching the gearbox to cherry picker
I tried to sleep under the car but Malarad found me
I didn’t quite expect this. He dragged me out.
The gearbox is loose and gradually coming down
It’s on the floor!
Missing something?? No, I’m not going to miss that gearbox!
4 years – moar old
The third picture I took when the MR2 arrived. There’s still some snow on the roof.
And some time later, with Widric’s WRX STI on the left and Maladar’s Nissan March with
4 years
Just realized that I’ve owned this car for four years now. Gotta find some more old pictures 🙂
Somebody drove the car from the garage to the nearest gas station without registration and license plates 😀
(Still) removing the automatic transmission
I had to run and get things done, but Maladar stayed in the garage and started installing support for the engine. Afterwards he sent me some pictures.
